Interface overview

SMS Gateway is a powerful software product that fulfils a broad range of SMS communication needs. Its many build-in interfaces make it possible to be integrated into any system.

Email-to-SMS Interface
SMS Gateway has two ways for handling emails that shall be converted to SMS
messages. You can use the built-in SMTP server or you can monitor POP3
email accounts. Via these interfaces all emails will be forwarded as SMS’s.

Command Line Interface
Another easy way to send SMS messages is to use the command line client delivered with the SMS Gateway. Simply just type c:\sendsms –d [mobile number] [message text]. If typing c:\sendsms –d 11223344 Hello John then the mobile phone with the number 11223344 will receive an SMS with the text “Hello John”.

Programming Interface
If you are a programmer you can also use the XML interface to send and receive SMS messages.

Robustness Through GSM Modem Pools and Fail-over
SMS Gateway has several build-in functions dedicated to secure the robustness of your SMS communication. One of these functions is the modem pool concept where a number of modem pools each containing one or more GSM modem can be configured. When a pool contains more than one GSM modem the system will automatically ensure fail-over between the modems in case one fails.

SMS Message Forwarding
SMS Gateway can receive SMS messages. This allows you to forward an incoming SMS message to another SMS number, emails or to a group. You can use keywords to distinguish incoming SMS messages and thereby ensure that the message reach a specific person or a group.

Scalable SMS Traffic
When the SMS traffic increases extra GSM modems can be added to any modem pool and subsequently increase the traffic capacity.

WEB based User Interaction

Administrators interface
The administrators interface is a password protected area for management and control of SMS Gateway. The main functions are:

  • Managing user accounts and receiver groups
  • Configuring SMS and email format
  • Configuring build-in SMTP mail server
  • Configuring POP3 mail account monitoring
  • Managing GSM modem pools
  • Defining keywords and associating actions

Message Centre
The Message Centre is used for writing and sending text message to individual receivers or groups. The SMS messages can be either normal SMS messages or flash messages. The character counter visualises the amount of SMS’s each message consists of.

It is also possible to send WAP Push messages including a URL from the Message Centre.

The message centre is password protected in order to avoid unintentionally use.

End-user Services
To ease the management of groups SMS Gateway includes a self-service interface. Via this interface end-users and employees can subscribe or unsubscribe to messages related to specific groups or interest.

The Swedish Forest Agency – overview and control in a countrywide WAN

“Qondoc gives me an overview of the whole system. If we were to close down server 12 at nine o’clock next Monday, for example, I would then see which system owners were affected and could contact them. If I want to know how many servers are running Windows 2000, I get the answer in 20 seconds. Before, I had to call all system owners and ask them personally.” Interview with Roland Lindblad, who is the manager of the operations and technology group and is responsible for 120 servers and 1 400 personal computers at 160 offices.
